The characters, like Atticus Finch, inspire standing up against injustice. The mockingbird symbolizes innocence, and the book, a curriculum staple, promotes critical thinking on social issues. Speaking of social issues, the book touches a lot on the fact that in those times segregation was still a very prominent thing and in the book it speaks on how Tom’s case affects the people around Atticus because of his skin, which is a heavy topic but is is a necessary topic needed to be touched and the book does a great job doing this which is why is teaches people about the not so great passed in a great way.
