I believe strongly in encouraging people to overcome the struggles in their lives, so I chose to discuss The Humanistic Approach. Walking beside someone and helping them to look at the positive in their lives, while acknowledging and dealing with the darkness that tries to pull them down. We should all realize that there will be instances or happenings in our lives that threaten to drag us into a deep dark pit. Some of us are better equipped to escape the darkness and leave it behind than others, however I’m of the belief that when someone has a good grasp of what is excellent and right about them that they’ll be able to face any hardship that comes without completely falling apart.
(McLeod, Saul Web) Humanistic psychologists believe that an individual’s behavior is connected to their inner feelings and self-concept.1 (Dictionary.com Web) The definition of self-concept is- the idea or mental image one has of oneself and one’s strengths, weaknesses, status, etc.; self-image.2 I have seen firsthand the chaos that enters into a person’s life when they hold self-hatred or loathing toward them self. I’ve felt the way it bleeds out and affects everyone around that single person.
