Many parents wants their child to be a superstar and standout, but not every kid can or wants to be a star. All kids should be active and get involved in some way and it is important for kids to go out and make friends at a young age. There are a variety of sports as everyone knows, the most popular are basketball, baseball, football, dance and volleyball. It is an estimated that there is about 40 million kids that are involved in competitive sports today. Children should not be pushed to participate in sports, rather just encouraged. There are many negative effects of children playing sports at such a young age including over scheduling, injuries and overtraining, and starting sports too young. Pushing children into sports may sound healthy, but think again.
Many parents plan a busy schedule for their children leaving no time for family. Since children are involved in too many sports, all of their activities are overscheduled; which can lead to dropping out in high school, teen depression, and substance abuse. Pressure for early specialization to maximize athletic skills for future social, financial, and educational rewards is generated by parents, coaches, and society. Pushing kids at such a young age and causing them stress is unnecessary because they change their physical, psychological, and emotional ways from childhood to adulthood.

Kids also make friends and learn to socialize with other children their age by playing with other kids on their team. Youth participation in sports helps lower the chance of young kids becoming obese.
