As I was called to the courtroom, all I had in mind was protecting my family, despite his past betrayal. As I thought I was doing just that, I had unwittingly sealed John’s fate by covering up his sins with a lie. Sin upon the sin of sin. I was unable to speak the truth in my desperation to shield him from harm, for fear of what might happen to what I hold dearest to me. I could not tarnish my husband's good name within the town, for he does not deserve that, even if he has faltered at times. We are human, a lapse in judgment is a forgivable action, although I cannot imagine that the court would see it that way. But what I have done is far worse, and my falsehoods shall haunt me forever, for as long as I live, which at these times is uncertain.
