Socialization is the process by which individuals gain the knowledge, language, social skills, and value to conform to the norms and roles required for mixing into a group or a community. It is also defined as a combination of both self-imposed which means the individual wants to conform, externally-imposed rules, and the expectations of the others. There are several agents that pertain to socialization. These are family, neighborhoods, religion, day care, school, peers, mass media, and the workplace. Family has a major impact on us and are life long influences for us. The experiences we gain from our family help us to establish out motivations, values, and beliefs. We discover who we are and what we want out of life. Some neighborhoods are better for children to be apart of compared to others. Most people try to stay in the happy and safe neighborhoods for their kids if they can afford to be there. Children from poor neighborhoods are more likely to get in trouble with the law, drop out of school, become pregnant, or have mental health issues. A lot of people use their religion as away to develop morals, values, and learn doctrines. With daycare there are issues presented that some times the children who spent more time in day care than with their parents were more academically delayed and had more behavioral issues. At school children learn a broad perspective to help them find a role in the world beyond just their families. Peers affect people because its almost impossible to get away from the pressure of conforming to others. People do not want to be rejected or be considered an outsider of the group. Later in life socialization is present in the workplace. We learn how to work together and how to be perspectives on the world.
