Therefore, this case grabs many artist’s and author’s attention to reflect it into an art and history works. Many works have been written to describe that catastrophe, among of which Davie’s book and Vigan movie, the two works that this research will examine are a film and a written work, which are based on a famous case of the identity theft that took place in the 16th-century, France. The film was produced in 1982 under the title Le Retour de Martin Guerre (The Return of Martin Guerre). it is directed by Daniel Vigne and is written by him and Jean-Claude Carriere in 1982. The book was written in 1983 one year later from the film production. In fact, the two accomplishments are in somehow linked to each other, but at the same time, they are difference in a certain extent or degree. This comes as no surprise, since a historian analysis is not the same as an artist analysis. That is, both of them have different purposes and approaches. To put it differently, truly, writing an incident as a historical event is not the same as a film production. As a matter of fact, there are some challenges for both works. Whereas the film begins with the marriage of Martin and Bertrande to capture audience’s attention to be engaged in watching the film, in other words, Regarding the Return of Martin Guerre, after 8 years to the court in perfect timing is basically the same in both of works, but the starting point was different in terms of time and place. As it can be noticed the book starts with a detailed description of the life of rural families, and how the move because of political and economic reasons.
