Joyce Oates frequently expresses the element of imagery throughout the text. One of the first examples is evident that imagery is being used “She was fifteen and she had a quick, nervous giggling habit of craning her neck to glance into mirrors or checking other people’s faces to make sure her own was all right” the author creates a picture in you mind of how she checks herself out.
