During the 16th century there were many great empires that helped develop and shape states into advanced, industrious countries. Three of these empires reside in Asia: The Ottoman, Mughal, and Imperial China empires all contributed to technology, literature, arts, and cultures. Although each of these empires were prosperous, they each faced unique challenges that led either to their decline or success. Each ruler had different styles of governing their subjects, different strengths and weaknesses, and preparation to confront the challenges the West brought. It is evident that these rulers were not ordinary and without them traditions, products, and cultures may not exist.
