The constitution didn’t explicitly protect the rights of black people or women when it was initially drafted, yet, over time, with changes to amendments, the rights and protections have been expanded to protect all citizens. This is an example of one of the many issues that the crafters of the 1787 Constitution dealt with. “In 1987, United States Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall set off a firestorm of controversy. He questioned the wisdom of celebrating "the achievement of the Founders and the document they drafted in Philadelphia" in 1787. Marshall rejected the notion that the United States Constitution drafted in Philadelphia set out the freedoms that blacks and women now enjoy.” Meaning that in 1987, due to all the debate about celebrating
