there were a lot of changes from the times of the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s. Whenever the U.S. was in a war like some there is always something that has to happen in the end like tariffs the government had to raise money on goods. If the consumer wanted something inside the US the consumer would have to pay a tariff, and if the sender wanted to send something out the sender would have to pay an export tariff on the item the sender would like to send out. On top of that there was an unregulated economy in the U.S.. So there would be a free market for the people who wanted it and the U.S. also had an unregulated economy at that time.The U.S. have had an economic system that allowed supplies and demands to regulate the prices and wages rather than government policy.Labor laws were also big at the time and at that time the employees got there right to protest when they did not like it(pullman strike letter #1).
