1932 Scarface was produced during “pre-code” Hollywood. This era in Hollywood was when “talkies” were introduced and the enforcement of the Motion Picture Production code was mandatory. While these films were censored, they weren’t severely as censored as the films that came out in 1934. The pre-code films were known for being openly suggestive. With this being said, 1932 Scarface tried to bring viewers attention to crimes that were actually happening during this time period. Within the open credits we see them alluding to this by calling out the government for never taking action in these crimes and punishing these gangsters.
