What are the advantages of having diversity in a collaborative learning environment?
Knowledge is power; wisdom is gained through the year that’s spent on this earth. As we venture through life, we would encounter many diversities, some of which we would learn from, and some of which we would ignore. For example, during week two class discussion, we were placed into groups of threes, and were given the task of choosing 14 out of 20 items that you would need in order to successfully rescue your injured friend, which were trapped on a mountain side. Based on the items that were chosen, the group with mostly females chose items that would keep themselves very comfortable, but in my opinion, these items would be difficult to transport to the bottom of the mountain with an injured person. On the other hand our group, which included only one female, chose items that were basic and easy to transport our injured friend and our equipment. This example shows us as opposite gender, tasked with the same mission but would choose different items, these diversities create a collaborative learning environment, we are able to listen and learn from the opposite sex.
How might factors such as diversity, attitude, learning, and work styles affect collaboration?
We as human beings, we all go through many different emotions throughout the year, which would hinder us from contributing to our group success. Some females, whenever she is on her period cycle, she tends to be very aggressive toward men. Some men, whenever he is going through a rough time at work, he would bring that same attitude to the college environment. All of these emotions can become a weak link in the chain of education, your
