On September 5, 1972 entered the Olympic Village apartments where the Israeli athletes were staying, initially killing two and taking nine other as hostages. In order for the hostages to be released the Palestinians demanded the release of over 200 Arabian prisoners. Their demands were not met by the deadline which was 5p.m. The members of Black September took the nine hostages to the Munich airport; this resulted in a shootout between the terrorists and the German police. This left nine hostages, two policemen and five Palestinians dead. No demands were met and this was a failed attack. The year 1972 was a turning point for the perception of terrorism. Before this attack, most terrorist attack consisted of arson, bombing, or destruction of public property. During the 1960s and 1970s terrorist hostage begin to emerge. On September 5, 1972 a Palestinian group of terrorist known as Black September bombarded the Olympic Village apartments where the Israeli athletes; killing two and taking the other nine as hostages. The 1972 attack largely followed the script of a barricade siege as outlined and described by Wilson and also fits the general terrorist attack as described by Horgan’s process model. After watching the documentary and reviewing Wilson’s readings, I begin to get a better understanding of what a barricade siege is and the certain strategies terrorist use. The attackers or terrorist that carry out the attack are generally well trained and the attack is thoroughly planned prior to the event. In the documentary the attackers trained in special training camps for a month before the Munich Olympics.
