The population increased dramatically because of all the immigrants who wanted to grow a family in the constantly changing American lands. In Section 3, Document 2 (Manufacturing Workers in the United States) the amount of workers in the manufacturing industry had quadrupled since 1850-1900 meaning that there was a larger workforce and more tasks were able to be accomplished. While the conditions were not the most sanitary or safe, the more additional help gained, the more a business was able to fix these issues and more of the surrounding cities. A few volunteers, such as Jane Hull, aided with the construction of settlement houses to aid the Urban communities’ stability in these times of need.
