2.1 The effects of 3D printing technology on access to firearms
3D printing has a wide range of applications and one of the most contentious areas is undoubtedly 3D printed firearms. For the purpose of providing a complete overview of the existing conflicting ethical issues surrounding the use of 3D firearms, limiting the discussion scope to the context of homemade firearms in the US, where its constitutional protections for the right to bear firearms and huge market for guns, will allow the presentation of different ethical perspectives which will facilitate ethical analysis.

3D printing revolutionizes traditional manufacturing by simplifying the creation of precision parts, distribution of design files and making the means of production easy to own (1). The unprecedented levels of convenience and liberty engendered by the age of 3D printing and open source means that one only needs a downloaded blueprint from Defcad.com and a low-cost, regular 3D home printer to be able to print a functional gun in secrecy from their homes, skirting domestic firearm laws as they desire. Other more realistic options over 3 d printed guns
The inability to create quick, safe, reliable plastic guns and exorbitantly expensive 3D metal printers provide little incentive for criminals to adopt 3D printing as a means of weapons production (The right to print arms,scott zimmer).This is evinced by the absence of criminal record involving the use of 3D printed guns to commit crime.There exist far more viable and attractive avenues to obtain affordable high quality firearms. For instance, unlicensed guns from black markets or legal guns from shops are easier ways to obtain firearms. Moreover, In terms of reliability and efficacy, traditionally homemade improvised weapons like the zip gun surpasses the performance of any known 3D printed firearms .In consideration of the above mentioned reasons, there is little reason to fear 3D guns at the
