4. Narrative:

4.1. Brief Synopsis: On 25 December 2015 Operator 1 (O1, AFSAS Person 1) was driving Vehicle 1 (V1, AFSAS Object 1, a 2007 Ford Mustang) on a two lane undivided road, when O1 lost control of V1 and traveled off of the road. V1 collided with a tree, Object 2 (OBJ2, AFSAS Object 2) and came to a rest. O1 sustained fatal injuries from the mishap and was pronounced deceased by competent medical personnel.

4.2. Sequence of Events: On 25 December 2015, O1 was on leave visiting family and friends after having arrived via airplane the previous day. O1 woke up at 0600 and for the rest of the day was visiting with family and running errands to get V1 into running condition. Around 1400 O1 placed a new battery into V1 and began driving,

He often spoke of outfitting his vehicles with performance-enhancing additions, and also spoke about racing previously when he lived in the states. O1 chose to drive at a level above the speed limit, despite the hazards present of rain, fatigue, and driving a vehicle he had not driven for the last 15 months. Tire mark yaws were indicative of V1 traveling off the road to the right with O1 taking corrective action to get V1 back onto the roadway. This corrective action was acting against V1 as it traveled on its center mass causing V1 to slide sideways in a yaw leaving the roadway. 4.3.3. Non-factors Investigated:

4.3.3.1. V1 Condition: The exact condition of V1 is unknown. However, O1 was reported to take great pride and care in his vehicles. V1 was being kept by a family member in the U.S. while O1 was stationed overseas. Upon his arrival back in the states, O1 had to replace the battery before driving V1, but no other defects with the vehicle were mentioned by family or from the traffic accident report. Tire tread depth was measured at 11/32", within accepted limits.

4.3.3.2. Road Condition/Upkeep: The road is a two-lane undivided county road. Lines are well marked with no obstructions to vision in the path of travel. The path of travel along the road was essentially in a straight line, with no visible incline or decline. The traffic accident report identified there were no apparent roadway defects detected at the scene.
