4-methylcyclohex-1-ene is a colorless liquid with a faint gasoline like odor with a melting point of 214°F or approximately 101.0 °C and is used as an organic solvent. The purpose of this experiment was to synthesize 4-methylcyclohex-1-ene from 4-methylcyclohexanol through reflux and simple distillation. Reflux and distillation are techniques used by organic chemist as a separation method it involve boiling and condensing of a mixed solution, where reflux promotes the full completion of the reaction (continual recycling of solvent help the reaction complete) and distillation separates components in the mixture based on boiling points. In distillation a liquid is boiled and the vapor produced would condensed and collect in a separate container
