Chapter 1 -- The student should be able to:

Describe the role of staffing quantity and quality in the definition of staffing:
Staffing Quantity: Means having enough people to conduct business
Staffing Quality: Means having people with the requisite KSAO’s
Explain the concepts of Person-Job and Person-Organization match and describe the outcomes of a good match.
Person Job: Seeks to find a perfect match between the job and the individual
Person-Organization: Seeks to find a match for the job as well as the organization
Recognize the components of staffing: support activities and core staffing activities.

Recognize and understand the key strategic staffing decisions.
Understand the key issues related to ethical staffing practices.
Chapter 2
a. Recognize the types of employment relationships
Employer-Employee, Independent contractors, temp employees, unpaid interns, trainees.
b. Understand why laws are needed and recognize the different sources of laws and regulations.

c. Explain the regulatory model as it relates to EEO. Be able to trace a piece of legislation from beginning to end. See Handout.

g. Define disparate impact and disparate treatment
h. Define, recognize and interpret stock, flow and concentration statistics.

Chapter 3
a. Define HRP- list and describe the steps of the HRP process. Recognize the external influences on HR and staffing planning.
b. List and describe the steps in the HR and staffing planning processes. Describe the initial decisions, forecasting requirements, forecasting availabilities
c. Define the following: core workforce, flexible workforce
d. Understand the different staffing philosophies and describe the advantages and disadvantages of each.
e. Understand diversity planning and discuss affirmative action plans
f. Understand how to complete a Markov analysis and interpret the results
Chapter 4
a. Define the different types of jobs.
b. Define the following terms: job family, job category, job, position, task dimension, task, element, job description, job specification, KSAOs
c. Describe the sources used to collect data for job analysis
d. Describe the concept of job analysis, and explain its purposes with respect to recruitment and selection. Define the three different types of job analysis.

g. Explain how you would decide: which jobs should be analyzed and what job agents should be used.
