You must work with what skills and knowledge the learner already has and that the qualification goes with the learner’s job role.
Also the standards must be current and keeping in with the awarding body expectations.
Learners need to be able to demonstrate that they have current up to date knowledge of the legislations and practises.
5.2 When making assessment decisions, you must ensure that they are made against specified criteria, valid, reliable and fair.
• Made against specified criteria: when looking at the assessment, referencing to the specification throughout the decision will help make sure that it meets the relevant requirements.
You need to have a good understanding of the qualification you are assessing and its requirements so familiarise yourself with the standards and the criteria the learner needs to meet.
Regular meetings and standardisations will ensure you are up to date with all knowledge.
• Valid: Assessment method must be appropriate for the knowledge and skills being assessed and that it does meet the standards of the
