SCENARIO
As part of the planning stage of a Windows 7 workstation deployment project, you have been assigned the task of installing the Windows 7 Automated Installation Kit, building a reference computer, and capturing an image of the reference computer.

Exercise 4.1 Installing Windows 7 AIK
Overview
In Exercise 4.1, you install Windows 7
AIK on a workstation, using
installation files stored on your server.
Completion time
10 minutes
1. Log on to NYC-CL1 using the contoso\Administrator user account and the password Pa$$w0rd.
2. Click Start, and in the Search programs and files box, type \\rwdc01\labfiles\waik\startcd.exe and press Enter. The Welcome to Windows Automated Installation Kit window appears, as shown in Figure 4-1.

3. Click Windows AIK Setup. The Windows Automated Installation Kit Setup Wizard appears.
4. Click Next to bypass the Welcome page. The License Terms page appears.
5. Select the I agree option and click Next. The Select Installation Folder page appears.
6. Click Next to accept the default folder. The Confirm Installation page appears.
7. Click Next. The wizard installs the Windows 7 AIK, and then displays the
8. Installation Complete page.
9. Click Close.
10. Close the Welcome to Windows Automated Installation Kit window.
11. Leave the workstation logged on for the next exercise.
Exercise 4.2 Creating an Answer File
Overview
In Exercise 4.2, you use the Windows System Image Manager to create
an answer file that partitions a computer’s disk during the Windows 7
installation procedure.
Completion time
15 minutes
1. Click Start. Then click All Programs > Microsoft Windows AIK > Windows System Image Manager. The Windows System Image Manager window appears.
2. Click Tools > Create Distribution Share. The Create Distribution Share combo box appears.
3. In the Folder name text box, type c:\share and click Open. The share appears in the Distribution Share pane.
4. Click File > Select Windows Image. The Select a Windows Image combo box appears.
5. In the File name text box, type
\\rwdc01\downloads\win7ent\sources\install.wim and press Enter. The Windows 7 ENTERPRISE image appears in the Windows Image pane.
6. Click File > New Answer File. The answer file elements appear in the Answer File pane, as shown in Figure 4-2.

7. In the Windows Image pane, expand the Windows 7 ENTERPRISE\Components folder and browse to the X86_Microsoft-Windows-Setup_6.1.7600.16385_neutral\DiskConfiguration\Disk\CreatePartitions\CreatePartition.
8. Right click CreatePartition and, from the context menu, select Add Setting to Pass 1 windowsPE. The CreatePartition setting appears in the Answer File pane.
9. Expand the ModifyPartitions container, then right click ModifyPartition and, from the context menu, select Add Setting to Pass 1 windowsPE. The ModifyPartition setting appears in the Answer File pane.
10. In the Answer File section, select Disk.
11. In the Disk Properties pane, under Settings, select each of the following settings in turn and configure it with the value provided:
Double-click DiskID and enter value = 0
WillWipeDisk = true
12. In the Answer File pane, select CreatePartitions\create partition.
13. In the CreatePartition Properties pane, under Settings, select each of the following settings in turn and configure it with the value provided:
Extend = true
Order = 1
