Imagine a plane crashing into your office building at 590 mph and having that impact kill you and 3000 others in your work office. The 9/11 attack victims were choking on smoke, and jumping off the buildings trying to escape this disastrous situation. In times of panic and disaster, people rely on communication as their main source for guidance and support. The lack of new technology lead to the breakdown of communication in the 9/11 attacks. The authors Jim Dwyer and Kevin Flynn of 102 Minutes, the authors of the 9/11 Commision Report, and the author Kevin Baker of the New York Times article, provide effective evidence that warrants that communication is connected well towards providing aid in a situation of disaster. Although the lack of training contributed to the hampered emergency preparedness, lack of effective communication, effectiveness of the outdated radios, and coordination between the NYPD and FDNY led to the major …show more content…
The training to prepare for the emergency can be shown to be the most important when someone trained to meet at the stairway each time, but when it happens and something goes wrong, there should be a full on evacuation. “There had been no drills for this. No one had the duty of running such a full scale evacuation because it was never supposed to take place” (Dwyer and Flynn 168). Even though some companies did training, no one trained for a full on evacuation like this because no one believed it could happen. In the 9/11 tragedy, Sandy hook also had training malfaculites; “The classrooms did not lock from the insides, and even if you wanted to lock them, you needed a key” (HuFFINGTON POST). Although training saved several people from evacuating the school, 20 students and 6 teachers were still killed for not having a safe training plan in the classroom.
