A Career As A Linguistic Officer In The CIA

The career I am choosing centers around linguistics and essentially the CIA. I do not know necessarily understand why I find this career so intriguing. I am positive it has a lot to do with the fact that I find diverse cultures and languages so interesting and crucial to human life. Being a human being and only experiencing the world immediately around us seems so depraving. I want to be completely immersed in other places. I would not go as far as to feel like one of them, but viewing things from others perspective is crucial to world serenity. If we could find empathy in everyone, there would be no points of disconnection. I basically feel like the CIA would be one of the best ways to really experience different worlds and cultures. The degree someone must have can vary. The CIA represent a wide variety of disciplines, so no specific academic pathway is endorsed ("Frequently Asked Questions"). A great option for college would be Georgetown University because of its proximity to the CIA headquarters and linguistic program. It offers several foreign languages such as Arabic, Russian, and Chinese which are all languages needed for the CIA operation. The school teaches people the modern and classical language while teaching the history and tradition of their culture. This information would be crucial to the job because not only does a language officer have to translate, but they have to interpret and explain what everything means as well.
