The concept of an analytical essay is to assess a piece of text, usually literature, and break it apart into smaller sections to assist the reader in his or her understand of the big picture or meaning behind it through interpretation. By focusing on how metaphors, characters, and themes are presented within, the reader may better grasp the supported claims and arguments as well as the thesis made by the author throughout. Unlike a summary, an analytical essay should keep tying back into the main point using commentary.
