Identity is shaped by personal choices. In the stories “Bobos” and “Masks” both of the authors as children were bullied about something that made them different. The difference between the two stories is that in “Bobos” Havrilesky does not let what the kid said to her and she did not see herself differently. When the kid made fun of her shoes for not being name brand she did not get mad because that is the only thing she knew. She did not grow up with super nice shoes but her shoes were fine to her they served their purpose. In “Masks” Grealy let what the boys said about her face affect her.
