One of the themes of Flannery O’Conner’s work, “A Good Man Is Hard to Find,” is good versus evil. On page 245, paragraph 7, the grandmother tells the owner of a restaurant that he is a good man for having basic morality when he let two strangers charge the gas they bought (“Because you’re a good man!”). The owner pauses for a moment considering if this is what he considers to make him a good man, leaving the reader to question on their own if this is what they consider to be a characteristic of a good man.
