Salva had to face many difficulties during his way to survive but saves as a hardworking, strong person and a person that wants to overcome in life no matter the tribulations that is happening. One of the struggles that Salva had to pass was the gunfire that rang out at Salva’s school and near his school. The book inform us that “he ran until he could not run anymore. Then he walked. The way Salva confronted this was by joining another group of Dinka refugees to continue his journey this was really hard for Salva but it means that Salva is focused on his own survival and will do whatever it takes to make it to safety. The group is starving after going so many days without food and water. The way Salva his problem is by begging the fishing community for food. This means that Salva anyone doesn’t have food and that's the only choice they have, to beg for food. To clarify in the page (47) of A Long Walk to Water it explain us that “None of the travelers had money or anything of value to trade so they beg for food... The fisherman give them food without asking them" and that the only choice they have was to beg for food to the fishing
