A Long Way Gone is based on a true story of Beah, that becomes a soldier at the age of 13 during the civil war. It took place in Sierra Leone in the 1990’s. He was separated from his family and was influenced to violence, and drugs. When Beah reached 16 years old his lieutenant turned him into UNICEFF, a rehabilitation center. Three things I learned is kids are introduced to many dangerous environments at a young age due to the government. Also, the only way Beah had the outcome he had is because he survived even through the hardest times alone. Lastly, I learned the damage a war can do from loss to no safety. I would like to know more if Beah after moving to the United States has he heard from his real family. I believe Beah wrote this book to show his past suffering and others who are going through it are not alone. I believe Beah was not biased since it's his story/past. That being said it's reliable. Also, his past is not as easy to make up or exaggerate since it's his experience.
My opinion for A Long Way Gone is an extraordinary experience for a child. It was intriguing since I never been influenced or at reach of war, violence or drugs. I would totally recommend this book to another person because it's good to be informed about what others especially children go through at a young age. The five unknown vocabulary words are:
