Marist Theatre Program and Marist College Club of Theatre Arts assembled a wonderful cast of student actors to produce William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The cast opened the show on Thursday, October 27th, at the Nelly Goletti Theatre. The play directed by Jim Steinmeyer was a success because of its strong cast, visually pleasing costumes, and interesting set.
A Midsummer Night’s Dream contains three main plots: four young lovers going into the woods, a group of actors rehearsing for a show, and the mishaps in the fairy world of Fairy King Oberon and Fairy Queen Titania. The mischievous fairy elf, Puck, makes the plots collide when he uses a magic and love potions. He makes the wrong lovers fall for each other, turns one of the actors in an ass, and makes Titania fall in love with that ass. This comedy contains love, confusion, magic, and complications.

Not only did he have a strong speaking voice and tremendous acting skills, but he also had breathtaking talent for dance and tumbling. The tumbling enhanced his character and brought it to a whole new level. He made every acrobatic move look easy. This made Puck even more magical and filled with whimsy. Alex was successful in projecting his character’s want for mischief and fun. He performed like a seasoned professional and every line delivered came with ease.
Another exceptional character was Hermia, played by Briana Paganini. Briana brought spunk, emotion, and confidence to her role. She may have been physically little, but her voice was anything but that. She captivated the audience with her performance. Every body gesture was fitting and enhanced the performance. Her constant loving gestures towards Lysander made her part believable and the relationship clear between the two actors. Briana has a natural talent and was entertaining every time she took the
