To The Editor of the Irish Times.

Hello, I am reaching out to you full of emotions, mostly a huge feeling of disturbance and extreme rage after reading Jonathan Swift’s “A modest Proposal.” I truly do not understand how someone could think that getting rid of children just to get more money is a good idea. Surely there is a more humane way to solve the poverty of society?

From my point of view, throughout this essay Jonathan Swift is trying to say that our children should be used, sold, and killed just to save money. Swift compares children to animals throughout this essay and even mentions “a year old baby being stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled.” The thought of this alone leaves me with an image that will forever haunt me.
