Certain races in America were forced to conform to things like segregation. This is exemplified in the book a Raisin in the Sun. In this book the family wants to move into a new house in a white neighborhood. However this is not conforming to the society of the time. The Mr. Lindner character from the neighborhood comes over and tries to negotiate with them. He says, “It is a matter of the people of Clybourne Park believing, rightly or wrongly, as I say, that for the happiness of all concerned that our Negro families are happier when they live in their own communities.”(Hansberry 100) Lindner wants the Younger family to conform to societal norms. It is not conforming to move into a white neighborhood as a black family. However, conforming to these standards will cause conflict in the Younger family as they still want to move into a better house. With things like segregation the conformity often causes unrest.
