Any chance most of the dreams that the characters had had of happening went away as soon a Walter gave all of his mother's money to his crook of a friend. This money appeared to be very vital to future of the family. Part of the money was going to help pay for his sister’s college, most likely pay for things for his son and the child that his wife was expecting and his mothers new home. So he lost $10,000, which was a lot of money at the time, but no one got hurt physically. Dreams were shattered and hopes were pushed aside, but even through all of this, there was still a chance for the Youngers to be happy, even without the money. They had a lot to be thankful for, Ruth was pregnant and everything seemed to be going well with the pregnancy, Travis was healthy, and Mama did get her garden. The garden was Mama’s dream; she had always wanted one, but was never able to because of the apartment that they lived in. It seems that Mama wanted a garden so that she could care for another living object, one that she had complete control over. Mama really just wanted to have the ability to create something that she could survive off of. The new house that they were going to move into gave her that opportunity. Even though Walter made the mistake of losing all of his mother’s money, she was still able to get something that she had wanted for many years. Mama was, out of all of the Youngers, the most deserving of having one of her dreams come true. She had taken care of so many people that it seems like it was time for her to be taken care
