Despite the death of her domineering father, we notice that Miss Emily is still affected by this oppression. Miss Emily’s life is so reclusive and isolated that very few people are part of. Furthermore, the events that happened and her actions keep the townspeople talking and wondering about her and her home. Moreover, growing up with her father deprived her freedom to the point where she was used to the lifestyle of pleasing her father, without being able to express herself and become independent. She knew this too as she acted nonchalant even after her father’s death and “she told her that her father was not dead.” Everyone is eager to take a glimpse into Emily’s home and a tale quickly begins to reveal why people are so fascinated with Miss Emily. Eventually, Miss Emily adapted to this life where she was lost and confused as to what to do with herself, restored into a sense of seclusion, as the narrator stated, “After her father’s death… she

This helps explain why the townspeople attended her funeral. The importance of the old southern setting is emphasized by being detailed even before Emily is described. The Civil War between the northern and the southern regions of the United States is linked to the cotton wagons and gasoline pumps that overtake the old southern neighborhood and hint of a forthcoming conflict. Likewise, the setting portrayed would also explain why Miss Emily became this odd obsessed woman. Additionally, there were gender inequality and racism as well Miss Emily, unfortunately, embodies the minorities of this time as a black woman, who has also been orphaned. It would be clear why it would be difficult for her to integrate into society, which promotes the idea that Miss Emily was a victim throughout the story. Given these points, the conflict in the plot is Miss Emily’s
