A commonly shared theme in A Separate Peace and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time can be trust. Although each character in their stories show this theme differently, it it still similar in both novels. Christopher, from The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time, struggles with connecting with others. However, he connects and shows trust with his guidance teacher, Siobhan. In the story Siobhan was someone that Christopher could lean on for support and advice. She was the one who encouraged Christopher to write a story and find the murderer of Mrs. Shears dog. In A Separate Peace, Gene Forrester learned to trust his good friend Phineas. He knew that he could rely on Finny for support and help when his his other peers wouldn’t. Towards the end, Christopher and his mother had learned to forgive Christopher’s father. Although the parents remained separate, both families accepted the circumstances and soon began to tie up the loose ends. In A Separate Peace, when Finny had learned the truth about the accident, he forgave Gene for his actions. However, Gene would have never known what Finny wanted to say after.
