Neil Perry, an ambitious student of Mr. Keating, began to lead to Dead Poets Society with the guidance of a poetry book given to him by Mr. Keating. Neil along with a group of students meet in a cave on the outskirts of campus where they being to read poetry. The boys learn to express themselves through different types of poetry. The society along with Mr. Keatings class, gives the boys an outlet from the traditional strict ways of Wleton Academy. Although there are concrete differences between the two secret societies, their similarities protrude. Both are lead by the outspoken, ambitious boy who tragically dies. It is ironic because these boys are the best example of a lesson taught by Mr. Keating: Carpe Diem. “Carpe, carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary.” (Dead Poets Society) . Finny and Neil seized the day, they sucked the marrow out of life. These boys were the leaders, the free spirits of their respective groups.
