After he dies, Felicite is heartbroken and thus has him stuffed to remember him. She places the stuffed parrot in her room among the other religious objects. Felicite sees Loulou as a resemblance of the Holy Spirit, for that reason she begins to worship and turn to him in prayer. “In church, gazing at the Holy Spirit, she noticed that he had something of the parrot about him. The resemblance was even more striking in a print depicting the baptism of Our Lord. With his purple sings and emerald body, the Holy Spirit was the image of Loulou (4.32-33).” It is apparent that Loulou serves as Felicite’s personal idol and representative of God on earth. Being new to faith, she seeks spirituality through her relationship with Loulou, who proves the presence of God to
