The last example of why Shakespeare was writing Hamlet with thoughts of the afterlife is we see a clear reference to bible stories and some similarities in the characters in Hamlet to bible characters and stories. These stories show that Shakespeare really had a good grip on bible knowledge because the stories are not necessarily common bible stories. In regard to Ophelia her story very much mirrors the bible story about Jephthah’s daughter. The similarities begin in the fathers of the two girls. Jephthah had made a name for himself as a fearless brave chief of robbers. Then you have Ophelia whose father, Hamlet Sr. was a brave leader of a kingdom.
