This chapter is important because it shows details of a perfect family. The family has changed dramatically from the beginning of chapter seven to the end of it which is one representation of change in the novel. The family is broken due to the change in Bennie. Once a loving man who did not want anything to do with the wealthy republicans, has now changed his ways completely. When Bennie saw Stephanie leaving to play tennis at the country club, he says, “Going to play with the fascists?” (Egan 118). This signifies to the reader that he was not very fond of Kathy or people like her. This has changed throughout the course of this chapter because now he is having an affair with her. Jules is now a released convict trying to get back on his feet after being in jail for about five years. Before prison, Jules was said to have the optimistic view of life and always had an idea of what he wanted to do with his life. After jail however, Jules is struggling to go out and try to find himself a job and prefers to stay at his sister’s house while playing with her son Chris. In chapter seven Stephanie tells Jules that he had so many ideas when he first moved to New York and he does not have a very good argument in relation to her statement (Egan 124). This shows the change in Jules’ personality. Once he was optimistic and now he is not quite the same because prison has changed him. Meanwhile, Bosco use to be a famous guitarist in the band the Conduits, but now makes his own music which is very unpopular. The only reason why he continues to make music is because Bennie releases the music because of his friendship with Bosco. In the novel Bosco states, “And that’s the question I want to hit straight on: how did I go from being a rock star to being a fat fuck no one cares about? Lets not pretend it didn’t happen.” (Egan 127). This statement shows how Bosco himself realizes how different he is now from what he was before which is the reason he names his album “A to B.” Chapter seven revolves around Bosco because of his albums title, which concludes that this chapter is titles “A to B” solely
