Personal Essay- ASCP Scholarship
My academic goal is to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in the field of Medical Technology. There are so many reasons that I have chosen this profession, in addition to the fact that I genuinely enjoy the tasks and challenges associated with this field. It is a fast- growing field, and there has always been a great demand for clinical laboratory technologist. Being in this field, gives the opportunity to perform different kind of tests and able to use advanced technology instruments and analyzers to evaluate/ interpret the results, integrate data, problem solve, consult, conduct research and develop new test. In addition, the medical laboratory science profession has more than one career track based on level of education. This field offers the opportunity to serve as a generalist or as a specialist in five specialty areas including blood banking, chemistry, hematology, immunology and microbiology. It is an essential profession within the broader scope of medical practice as it enables physicians to diagnose and treat patients; however, while is permits working in a hospital as part of a healthcare team, it does not require direct…show more content… I completed the ASCP MLT Certification Examination in March 2015. I always wanted to have a career that is related to the medical field and this is the best opportunity I can have to achieve my goal of becoming a Medical Laboratory Scientist. When I was at the Community College of Baltimore, first entering into this field I knew that I wanted to pursue a major related to the medical field. My goals become more specific when I undertook clinical rotation experiences in four different hospitals working in all five areas of the laboratory.
