In the beginning we see that John Proctor and Abigail Williams had an affair but we are not sure as to what exactly happened between them and we see the proof that there was definitely something going on between them when Abigail says, "John- I am waitin' for you every night."(Miller 23). During 1692, children were viewed as the lowest in the society pyramid. Many people suspect that she accused people of witchcraft because she wanted to receive some attention from the others in the town. But on the other hand the main reason she was accusing people was because she was trying to get rid of Elizabeth Proctor. Abigail was jealous of Elizabeth because Elizabeth was married to the man Abigail was in love with, John Proctor. Even though John had already told Abigail that he had no feelings towards her. But Abigail believed that if Elizabeth was out of the picture John would confess that he was really in love with Abigail the whole time. So Abigail falsely accused Elizabeth of witchcraft and planed on having Elizabeth hung so that her and John could be together. After being accused Elizabeth is an emotional wreck and begins to wonder why Abigail is coming after her,"...There be a thousand names; why does she call mine?..."(Miller 65). Soon Elizabeth realizes that it's because of the affair between Abigail and John. Abigail wants to kill Elizabeth so that she can finally have John all to herself. We realize Elizabeth has come to this conclusion when she says, "… She thinks to take my place, John."(Miller
