One night Abigail, a few other girls, Mary Warren, and Tituba were all caught in the woods. They were all dancing, singing, yelling, all kinds of stuff Reverend Parris caught the girls and Tituba in the woods that night. That same night Betty Rev. Parris’s daughter was caught flying over Ingersoll’s barn and came down light as a bird. Once Rev. Parris yelled out to the girls and frightened Betty to where she fainted right on the spot! Ever since Betty fainted she hasn’t woken up. The town of Salem is calling it witchcraft. After Abigail's parents were brutally murder in front of Abigail, Parris took Abigail in, but never gave her the love that her parents did. Not being given the attention an adolescent like Abigail needs causes her to act out with the other girls. In the play during act one, it is obvious that Abigail is attached to John because of the way he showed her affection. The Crucible is a play that many people love and enjoy to watch in action. No one person can determine whether or not Abigail Williams is a victim of her society. While reading the play someone could see Abigail as someone who started/caused the Salem witch trials. Abigail can be pardoned because of outside forces upon her. Just remember Abigail could be consider someone who started the Salem witch trials, but she is a victim of her society because of the culture in
