The history myth I have chosen to discuss in our forum is who invented baseball. This myth involves whether or not, Abner Doubleday invented America’s pastime in Cooperstown, New York in 1839. Basis of the myth is due to a report published by the Mills Commission having credited Mr. Doubleday with the invention as a result of the testimony of Abner Graves. Additionally, Mr. Doubleday’s close friend Abraham Mills chaired the commission and authored the panel’s findings, concluding Mr. Doubleday invented the word “baseball” along with the diamond field, positions, and rules.
