Puritans
Puritans were members of the sixteenth and seventeenth century reform movement that occurred within the Church of England. Puritans advocated for purifying the Anglican church of Roman Catholic elements including bishops, elaborate ceremonials, and wedding rings. Puritans are significant because they played a large role in the English civil war. Scottish Puritans revolted against the religious policies of King Charles I. These revolts resulted in Charles I creating army without the permission of the Parliament, which is what began the civil war in England.
