Australia became a nation on 1 January 1901 when six British colonies—New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania—united to form the Commonwealth of Australia. This process is known as federation.
How were the aboriginals affected by the Federation?
The aboriginals were affected greatly by the Federation. This was because the Government failed to see the human rights of the Indigenous community. After the Federation the Aboriginals could only vote after the age of 21, and soon they had no rights at all.
- They were not allowed to be seen in public
