Gates' assessment of Lincoln during his presidency tells me that the Historian thought of Lincoln as a great man, who struggled through his term. Gates believed that the achievements of Lincoln persuaded the man to turn the nation around with thfreedom of slaves, which led to the nation being sown to become into one. My impression of the president was that Lincoln did this in order to turn the war around and lessen the tension of the warring nation. I think that Gates idea of the 16th President is right on target, but I disagree that Lincoln had done good, he could have done better in his role as president. Like learning from his opponents in the cabinet, and use the public in order to ease the war away further. Though we can both agree that Lincoln had become a great President through his presidency, Lincoln was a man who was able to leave behind a great legacy. In the end, the film gave me some insights of Lincoln, as did Gates's narration in the film. The movie was more interactive and educational as intended. However, Gates' narration could have been better, he could have asked for further details in any part of the film. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the film and Gates narration of Lincoln.
