When it comes to abstract art, it did not necessarily have to look aesthetically pleasing. Earlier in interview Pollock also stated that the “…modern artist have found new ways and new means of making their statements.” These new ways were usually some form of abstraction, like Pollock’s work. Many modern artists found their own style or techniques. In the interview with Wright, Pollock even states that he found different ways of creating paintings, and even described his technique to Wright. By artists creating new and different styles and techniques for themselves, it really helped separate the artists and make them be more individual. It is easy to tell a Pollock versus a Rothko painting. Both of them work in an abstract way, yet you are still able to easily differentiate a Rothko and a Pollock painting because they have drastically different styles. Abstract paintings were often viewed as being very intellectual pieces. They often required the viewers to think more about the meaning behind the pieces since the subject matter was not blatantly shown. This also increased the status of the artist.
