Abuse In Residential Facilities

Some people may not be familiar with what the activities in a residential facility are like, in the aspect of how it runes. Many facilities have a day shift and a night shift, and both shifts will either put the residents to bed or wake them up at different times. I have only worked during the day shift, so I will explain how the average day shift runs. The nurses are required to be there no later than seven in the morning so that we can start by waking the residents up. Depending on the resident’s schedule, the CNA will either wake up the resident to give them a shower or just get them ready for breakfast. Especially when “At least 2 million elders in the United States are victims of abuse every year. Countless others suffer from neglect and from treatment that robs them of their dignity” (Macionis 141). Because of the daunting number of elders that have been abused within America I had believed that this facility was the same as the others. However, I can assure you that this is one of the politest and well-respected facilities within the state of California, for it was beautiful in its halls as well as in the residents rooms. Even the exterior of the facility was well gardened and taken care of. It felt homely and comfortable, accept for the fact that many residents were being sped through their day. To make this facility into the ultimate nursing home for the elderly, there must be an increase in CNAs and volunteer visitors. The increase in CNAs will allow the residents to have sufficient time to make their own decisions and slow down to enjoy themselves. Furthermore, having volunteers to visit the residents whenever possible will allow many of the depressed folks to cheer up. Since many times the residents just want to talk to people, or have someone else talk to them. If these changes can be met, then the life of a resident in a convalescent hospital would increase
