I was born December 7, 1961 in Cullman County, Alabama to two loving parents. My father, Bobby Ray Griffin, who was also born and raised in Cullman, Alabama and my mother, Arthena Gale Pigg Griffin, of Addison, Alabama. My father worked for NASA for fifteen years and then the U.S. Army MICOM branch for thirty years at Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. My mother was a hard working house-wife/farmer who also drove a school bus for the local school system. I attended West Point High School in the Cullman County school system for four years while playing sports and enduring other extracurricular activities until my graduation in May of 1980. I then attended Wallace State Community College for two years, received a diploma in Machine Shop Technology, and later pursued an Associate’s Degree in Applied Sciences. I enlisted in the Alabama Army National Guard on September 24, 1987 and was sent to Fort Benning, Georgia for infantry training. Then I was assigned to Company C 1-167th Infantry as an Infantry Rifleman. While in this company I achieved the rank of Sergeant as an 11B Infantryman and then in 1996 re-classed to a 63T Bradley Mechanic. My company was mobilized and sent to Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. We were stationed as post security for thirteen months before being relieved. My next major deployment occurred in January 2005 as a Staff Sergeant of the infantry company to lead a squad of dismounted infantry soldiers into Iraq. In May 2005 we were deployed to the overseas outpost as Company A, 1-167th Infantry attached to the 108th Armor Battalion, 48th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division.
