I advocate this heavily for parents to be an active literacy sponsor as I myself feel I did not take full advantage of my opportunities growing up with my own. I had seemly endless opportunities to acquire books or other forms of literacy: form my parents, to the library, and through the internet. It was not until I was around sixteen did I start to read for personal pleasure, it was all mostly exclusively for academics before that, and once I did I felt reading across all subject became easier for me. When I started to read more articulating my own thoughts was easier then every before and I felt I was not behind as much as I used to be.
