In Barbara Kingsolver’s Poisonwood Bible, Adah, the disabled twin in the novel, is way more than just a girl with a limp, she is a character that had sacrificed more than any other character throughout the novel. This continuous life of sacrifices allowed her to have higher life values than any of the other characters could obtain throughout the novel because of Adah’s unique beliefs and lifesyles. Through Adah Price’s sacrifices of her religious beliefs, identity, acceptance of her family and her health as whole a deeper understanding of Adah was gained, not only as the compassionate and truthful being she was, but also as the symbol of freedom that she was portrayed to be, and through this a deeper understanding for the novel as a whole was gained. Adah throughout the Poisonwood Bible describes her experiences of writing and reading, but it was still determined throughout the novel that Adah hadn’t hit her full potential because she was still putting herself down by calling herself names and assuming that she would not succeed at attempting to model with her sisters.Adah finally hit a self-discovery moment when she realized

It can be inferred that Adah was a symbol for freedom and through her new found identity for herself the novel gave a deeper understanding to the freedom that is portrayed as a whole by describing the feeling that an immigrant felt during this time period when they
