Whereas boys tend to be more hyperactive, girls tend to have the attention-deficit side of the disorder. Stereotypically boys are seen to have ADHD over girls, but is also affects girls and even adult women. Most people overlook the disorder in girls, because they don’t have the obvious symptoms that boys show. Girls with ADHD are at risk for low self-esteem and problems like depression and anxiety. Statistics show that they are also more likely to get pregnant and pick up the habit of smoking while still in middle or high school. It is much more prominent that girls carry their symptoms into adulthood while boys usually grow out of them. It is also shown that women with ADHD have more of a chance to have children with ADHD. It is rare that girls show signs of hyperactivity, whereas boys show hyperactivity more than inattention. It is often missed, because the absence of hyperactivity leads others to assume the child or adult is simply shy, quiet or slow. With the right kind of guidance, these people can become hugely successful in their lives. Children and adults with ADD typically are creative, impulsive, original, and full of energy. They are usually independent thinkers. They are so persistent and driven to the point of being stubborn. They can be quite sensitive, but often hide this under a kind of
